Ob dieses historische Ereignis als Revolution, wie es in diversen Literaturhinweisen behauptet wird, bezeichnet werden kann, soll in dieser Arbeit geklärt werden. War die Februarrevolution wirklich eine Revolution oder „lediglich“ eine Rebellion, ein Staatsstreich oder Ähnliches?
Um dieses Erkenntnisinteresse zu befriedigen wird folgendermaßen vorgegangen. Zunächst wird der Begriff „Revolution“ anhand einer Definition von Charles Tilly eingegrenzt. Um den Ursachen des Geschehens im Februar 1917 auf den Grund zu gehen, wird die Krisensituation Russlands vorwiegend ab dem Beginn des ersten Weltkrieges skizziert. Hierbei soll herausgefiltert werden, was die Russen zu einem mehr oder minder gemeinsamen Aufstand gegen das zaristische Regime veranlasst hat.
Darauf folgend werden die relevantesten Ereignisse vom Beginn bis zum Ende der Revolution kompakt rekonstruiert. Nachdem die Herrschaftsverhältnisse nach dem Sturz der Zarenherrschaft erläutert werden, ist in einer Zusammenfassung zu klären, ob es sich im Falle dieses Ereignisses um eine Revolution handelt oder nicht.
Als Grundlage der Untersuchungen dient verschiedene Sekundärliteratur.
Auf die Akteure im Einzelnen und ihrer Ideologien wird nur am Rande eingegangen, da dieses den Rahmen der Arbeit sprengen würde.
