Hoffmanns Erzählungen, Sprache: Deutsch, Abstract: „Schweigen wir aber über alles Verfängliche unseres Vereins, das der Teufel schon von selbst hineintragen wird bei guter Gelegenheit, und sprechen wir von dem Serapiontischen Prinzip! Was haltet ihr davon?“
So sei nun dies der Auftakt, tatsächlich über eben jenes Prinzip zu berichten! Lothar, eines der Mitglieder dieses Freundeskreis, wirft sogleich die Vermutung auf, es handele sich hier um ein feindliches Prinzip. Es sei vorweg genommen, dass dem nicht so ist. Was Hoffmann in seinem Werk „Die Serapionsbrüder“ von diesem fiktiven Freundeskreis diskutieren lässt, ist nichts geringeres als seine Kunstauffassung. Es ist indes keine strukturelle Poetik geworden, sondern nach Tieckschem Vorbild eine Sammlung von Erzählungen, die von Kommentierungen zum Erzählten durch den Freundeskreis umrahmt werden.
Diese Hausarbeit stellt sich der Frage, was überhaupt als serapiontisch zu bezeichnen ist und wie sich dieses Prinzip in den Erzählung o. g. Werkes darstellt. Da diese Hausarbeit ein Gemeinschaftsprojekt darstellt und die amtlichen Vorgaben zwecks der Möglichkeit zur Bewertung zwei eigenständige Teile vorschreiben, haben wir uns entschieden, den Begriff in einem theoretisch-poetologischen und in einem werkimmanenten Abschnitt zu untersuchen. Uns ist bewusst, dass beide Methoden des Herangehens nicht scharf voneinander trennbar sind und voneinander profitieren, wenn sie gleichberechtigt an einer Erzählung angewendet werden. Um dieses Manko auszugleichen, sind die beiden Abschnitte durch Querverweise miteinander vernetzt.
Der theoretische Abschnitt ist eine Auseinandersetzung mit dem Normcharakter dieses Prinzips und seiner intendierten Wirkung. Es werden im gleichen Zuge die Begriffe der Wirklichkeit, Fiktion und Imagination einer Untersuchung unterworfen und dabei an Hoffmanns Prinzip gemessen.
Im werkimmanenten Abschnitt werden die gewonnenen Erkenntnisse an den einzelnen Erzählungen nachvollzogen und dahingehend überprüft, ob sich ein verallgemeinbares Gesamtbild entdecken lässt. Es werden die Text- und Figurengestaltung untersucht und dabei einzelne erkennbare Tendenzen herausgearbeitet.
