Studienarbeit aus dem Jahr 2010 im Fachbereich Geschichte - Weltgeschichte - Frühgeschichte, Antike, Note: 3,0, Universität Potsdam (Historisches Institut), Veranstaltung: Proseminar Caesar, Sprache: Deutsch, Abstract: Der Mythos Caeasar, seine tatsächlichen Errungenschaften und das Imperium Romanum, das erste Weltreich der damals bekannten Welt, sind aus dem heutigen Leben nicht mehr wegzudenken. Städte wie Köln oder Trier zeigen noch heute die Spuren der Römer. Diese Geschichte zu rekonstruieren war schwer, denn es gibt nicht immer ausreichend Nachlass zur Auswertung oder zum besseren Verständnis. Doch auch wenn dieser Nachlass recht lückenhaft und teilweise subjektiv ist, so kann und muss er herangezogen werden. Ein Teil dieses Nachlasses ist Caesars Werk „De Bello Gallico“, welches sich heutzutage in der Weltliteratur etabliert hat und wenigstens dem Namen nach zur Allgemeinbildung gehört.
In dieser Arbeit soll es speziell um Caesars Rede zu Ariovist gehen und der damit verbundenen Frage nach Legitimitätsgeltung und Herrschaft Caesars gegenüber seinen Legion und Ariovist, beziehungsweise dem gallischen Land. Es mag zweifelsohne recht kompliziert sein, vergangene Handlungsweisen nach modernen Gesichtspunkten zu untersuchen, doch es lässt sich nicht von der Hand weisen, dass auch in der Soziologie Gesetzmäßigkeiten existieren. Max Weber soll hier als Vorlage dienen um den Bereich von Legitimität und Herrschaft erläutern zu können.
Strukturell wird als Erstes über Begriffe und Definitionen zu reden sein, um eine Basis für das Verständnis der weiteren Erläuterungen zu schaffen. Dabei werden insbesondere die Begriffe wie Macht, Legitimität und Herrschaft zu erläutern und soziologisch zu begründen sein.
Nach Abschluss dieses Kapitels geht es dann um die Person Caesar, einen Überblick über den Konflikt und die Rede Caesars zu Ariovist. Diese Rede ist dann entsprechend zu interpretieren und zu bewerten. Schon diese Bewertung stellt eine Herausforderung dar, da heute in anderen Kategorien gedacht wird und die demokratische Denkweise in den meisten Fällen doch überwiegt. Aber im römischen Reich von einer Demokratie zu sprechen, ist genauso falsch wie die Bezeichnung der Diktatur zu wählen. Die Römer haben sehr traditionell gedacht und gehandelt und waren ihren Gottheiten sehr verbunden. Bevor die Christianisierung vollzogen wurde, war die römische Gesellschaft polytheistisch strukturiert. Normalerweise beriefen sich auch römische Politiker auf die Abstammung von Gottheiten. Auch Caesar tat dies, doch die genaueren Gründe hierfür werden im Kapitel 3.1. zu erläutern sein.
