Magisterarbeit aus dem Jahr 2008 im Fachbereich Musikwissenschaft, Note: 1,3, Leuphana Universität Lüneburg, Sprache: Deutsch, Abstract: Von Ludwig van Beethoven ist ein Ausspruch überliefert, den er in prophetischer Vorsehung geäußert haben soll: „Wenn ein Instrument das Orchester im Kleinen nachzuahmen imstande ist, dann ist es nur die Gitarre.“ [zit. n. Schiffner 1994, S.74] Ich möchte in dieser Arbeit darstellen, welchen Einfluss die elektrische Gitarre auf die Evolution des Sounds der Popmusik hatte und wie sich dieser Einfluss retrospektiv bewerten lässt.
Dazu stelle ich im folgenden Kapitel die Grundlagen des Instrumentenbaus und der Funktionsweise der E-Gitarre vor. Die technischen Details, die in diesem Abschnitt thematisiert werden, sollen ein tieferes Verständnis der darauf folgenden Kapitel ermöglichen. Das dritte Kapitel ist dem Begriff Sound und seinen Interpretationsmöglichkeiten gewidmet. Grundlegend ist auch hier das Verständnis für die Entwicklung des Konzepts Sound durch die Erzeugnisse der Tonaufzeichnungstechnik. Es folgt eine Übersicht über die vorliegenden Studien zum Thema Sound und eine Bewertung der dargestellten Konzepte für den Sound-Begriff in dieser Arbeit. Kapitel Nummer vier setzt sich mit den Problemen eines analytischen Zugriffs auf populäre Musikformen kritisch auseinander und präsentiert eine Methode, die der Analyse von Popmusik dienlich sein kann. Im fünften Kapitel geht es um die Anwendung der vorgestellten Analysemethode. Dabei wird anhand von zehn Beispielsongs die Bedeutung der E-Gitarre für den jeweiligen Song plausibel gemacht. Hierauf folgt stets eine kurze Einordnung in den pophistorischen Gesamtkontext. Das sechste Kapitel thematisiert den Status der E-Gitarre in einem zunehmend digitalen Umfeld, sowohl in Hinsicht auf das Design des Instruments als auch mit Rücksicht auf produktionstechnische Aspekte.
