Krankheiten wurden früher mit negativen Erfahrungen in der Kindheit und einem
schlechten, nachlässigem Elternhaus begründet. Doch wie Hirnforscher inzwischen beweisen
konnten, liegt der wahre Grund für das Auftreten dieser Krankheiten viel tie fer.
Lange Zeit wurde angenommen, dass die Gene allein bestimmen, wie intelligent ein
Kind ist und wie ausgeprägt sein Gehirn ist. Doch wenn der Säugling auf die Welt
kommt sind seine Hirnfunktionen nur in Ansätzen vorhanden. Die Wissenschaft hat
bewiesen, dass die Umwelt, das Elternhaus, die Geschwister und die Vielfalt der Umgebung
maßgeblich daran teil haben, wie sich das Gehirn des Babys ausbildet. Es ist also
nicht genetisch vorbestimmt, welches Kind besonders lernfähig wird und welches später
einmal Schwierigkeiten in der Schule haben wird. Die Erfahrungen in früher Kindheit
haben Auswirkungen bis ins Erwachsenenalter und somit auch auf unsere Gesellschaft.
Dieses neue neurobiologische Wissen über die Entwicklung des Gehirns von Neugeborenen,
bringt Fakten und Theorien hervor, die das schlechte Abschneiden bei internationalen
Leistungsnachweisen, wie bei PISA-2000 begründen könnten. Frühkindliche Bildung
wurde in Deutschland lange Zeit vernachlässigt. „’Früher hieß es, je älter das
Kind, desto mehr wird in dieses Kind investiert, heute ist es umgekehrt.’ Diese Erkenntnis
hat sich in Deutschland, wo die Kindergärten kostenpflichtig und das Studium
gebührenfrei sind, noch nicht durchgesetzt.“ (Goebel, Berliner Zeitung vom 14.01.2003,
S.13). Diese neuen Erkenntnisse der Entwicklungspsychologie und Gehirnforschung
möchte ich im folgenden darstellen und vertiefen, und mich mit der Frage auseinandersetzen,
welche Mechanismen im Nervennetz Wissensanhäufung überhaupt möglich
machen und unterstützen. Erst dann kann darüber diskutiert werden, wie es um die Bildungs-
und Erziehungsprozesse in unserer Gesellschaft steht.
