Die Frage, ab wann der Genuss von Alkohol zu einer behandlungsbedürftigen Krankheit wird, stellt sich nicht nur dem einen oder anderen Konsumenten, sondern auch vielen Fachleuten. Die damalige Drogenbeauftragte der Bundesregierung Sabine Bätzing schildert im Drogen- und Suchtbericht 2009, dass sich die Krankheit der Alkoholabhängigkeit über mehr als zehn Jahre „...vom riskanten Konsum alkoholischer Getränke über den schädlichen Konsum hin zu einer manifesten Abhängigkeit“ (Bätzing 2009, S. 46) entwickeln kann. Aufgrund erheblicher Verträglichkeitsunterschiede zwischen den Konsumenten ist es nicht nur eine Frage der konsumierten Menge, ob eine Alkoholabhängigkeit entsteht. Mit der Menge des Alkohols steigt jedoch das individuelle Risiko, alkoholbedingt zu erkranken sowie für sich und Andere physischen, psychischen und sozialen Schaden zu verursachen. Die Einstellung in der Bevölkerung zum Thema Alkohol ist ambivalent und viele Menschen wissen wenig über das Phänomen der Alkoholabhängigkeit. Das Thema wird unter den Konsumenten nicht ernst genug genommen, wodurch bis zu einer effektiven Behandlung oft viele Jahre vergehen.In der Fachwelt wird die Thematik der Alkoholabhängigkeit seit einigen Jahrzehnten umfassend untersucht und ausführlich dokumentiert. Die vorliegende Diplomarbeit fügt hier einen neuen und aktuellen Baustein ein: Das aus den USA stammende verhaltenstherapeutische Konzept des Community Reinforcement Approach zur Behandlung alkoholabhängiger Menschen wird als Tätigkeitsfeld der Sozialen Arbeit im deutschen Suchthilfesystem beleuchtet.
Hierbei wird das Konzept des Community Reinforcement Approach, das erst seit wenigen Jahren vereinzelt im bestehenden komplexen Suchthilfesystem in Deutschland umgesetzt wird, mit der Sozialen Arbeit im multiprofessionellen Team eben dieses Systems verknüpft. Der Community Reinforcement Approach hat in Deutschland bisher kaum Fuß gefasst, wodurch zum Tätigkeitsfeld der Sozialen Arbeit im Rahmen dieses Ansatzes insgesamt wenig Erfahrungsberichte aus der Praxis existieren.
Die vorliegende Diplomarbeit möchte in diesem noch recht jungen Arbeitsfeld folgende Frage beantworten:
