In Band 1, »Nesthäkchen und ihre Puppen«, ist die sechsjährige Annemarie ein temperamentvolles Kind, das aber mit ihrer Lebhaftigkeit und ihrem häufigen Ungehorsam die Nerven der Erwachsenen oft überstrapaziert. Aber zum Glück ist sie ja ganz der Liebling ihres Vaters, des Herrn Doktor Braun.

Nesthäkchen ist zurecht der Klassiker der »Backfischliteratur«. Im Jahre 1983 wurde die Handlung der ersten drei Bände als Weihnachtsserie im ZDF gezeigt.

Die jüdische Autorin Else Ury, zeitlebens eine deutsch-konservative und unpolitische Person, wurde von den Nazis in Auschwitz ermordet.
